The historic town of Huntington dates from 1653 and is on the North West coast of Suffolk County NY near the border of Nassau County.
It’s best- known resident, poet Walt Whitman, was born here in 1819, and Nathan Hale the Revolutionary hero landed at the adjacent hamlet of Halesite on a spying mission for George Washington in 1776. Huntington Harbor is one of the largest on Long Island Sound and considered to be the most protected. Surrounded by wooded hills and luxury homes it’s also perhaps the most beautiful. Huntington marked the eastern end of the fabled Gold Coast that stretched westward to Manhasset Bay. At it’s height during the first half of the twentieth century there were more than six hundred mansions along this North Shore. Only about a hundred remain. However, eleven of those estates are presently open to the public. Two can clearly be seen during your charter and our captain will be happy to double as tour guide should you be interested.
